AC120 Thorax with pteruges, 4th-3d cent BC

Description

The bell armor, quite stiff due to its bell shape, evolves to a more fitting design, mimicking the torso's musculature. This replica illustrates this evolution. The volutes remind the traditional decoration of the bell armor. This kind of armor protection is often completed by pteruges, leather or linen straps, covering the groin and legs.

Cuirass made of brass, pteruges made of two leather layers, sewed together, fixes to the cuirass. Length of the cuirass (front) 47cm. Width of the head's opening 20cm, depth 13cm. Width of the cuirass 36cm, depth 25cm (under the arms). Length of the 14 pteruges 27cm. Closes with 6 pins.
