Description
Among the enemies of Rome, the roofline were most certainly among the fearsome ones. From nomadic origin, they used to fight with a very heavy cavalry, the cataphracts. These were later incorporated in the roman armies as auxiliaries units.
This helmet, spanghelm type, with its brass fittings and cheek guards, is a typical one for the third cent and heavy cavalry unit. It may also fit a sarmatian fighter. This one is equipped with a scaled neckguard.
22cm long and 18cm wide (inner dimensions). Iron. Scales in brass, 2,5cm high. Total length of the neckguard 20cm.
