Description
Made after the famous British museum Mainz gladius, this sword most certainly belonged to a rich officer. It shows Tiberius, as a general, offering is victory to the emperor Augustus. The middle plate of the scabbard is decorated with Tiberius' head, and the bottom shows a woman holding an axe, most probably impersonating the defeated foes.
Wood and steel for the blade, wooden scabbard covered with later and decorated by embossed or tinned plates.
